A Global Mobile Biz
Friday, July 25, 2008

Yes, we all know that Amway is global. Yesterday I had some pretty interesting conversations internally about how to best support a mobile strategy. After all, IBOs may be building home-based businesses, but it's not like all the work is happening in their homes.

In the past year I have to admit I've become a bit of a blackberry addict. I always vowed I wouldn't go there, but it's hard not to "just check my email" when it's so easy to do so from just about anywhere. Like, while waiting in line for an attraction at Disney. I will never hear the end of that one from my family.

Me On Crack(berry)

Kari, Amanda and Dillon Having Fun.  Me, checking email

OK, there's always the potential to abuse any new technology. Everything in moderation, right?

Mobile technology is rapidly improving. Speed is getting quicker. Devices can hold so much more data and do so many things now. Coverage is near universal (although I have to admit that my hopes aren't very high for good coverage at the cottage up north this next week).

I really don't know much about the iPhone initiative we read about this week, but it sounds very exciting for us and for IBOs. Imagine whipping out your iPhone and showing a potential customer a video about Nutrilite to prove a point. Or quickly checking your business volume while sitting at an airport terminal on the last day of a month. Or reviewing your downline organization and sending emails. What are the "killer IBO apps" that Amway Global needs to develop? I'm excited for the potential this represents for our business and for IBOs.

Did you get the express tickets for the rides? I find them well worth the money. We visited once about 3 weeks after 9/11 during a fall break from school. We walked right up to every ride, and could go over and over without waiting. It was great!

Can the iphone handle things like a PowerPoint presentation, where you could view the marketing plan? That would be cool. Also, it would be cool to download audio/text leave behind documents (free, of course) to someone's iphone or e-mail after showing the marketing plan.

Which reminds me, has Quixtar considered placing the QBOB on the public portion of the website, so you can direct prospects to review this document online, and not use the paper document unless they want it/don't have access to a computer? I asked my upline this question (for the IBOCity site) and it fell into a black hole. Thanks.

.

Editor's Note:  The "Start A Business" section on the Quixtar home page essentially is the same content contained in the QBOB.  With video!   RL

It's most definitely true. Some folks are just connected, while others hate the idea of a cell phone but have one anyway. My business spans multiple states and with some of my partners in the military, a global business has new meaning.

It's just a way of life now.

Robin, this may sound trivial, but some sort of customer/client contact management tool... doesn't have to be as full-blown as salesforcedotcom, but a way to track contacts including both "yes" and "no" respondents and clients and IBOs.

Also, automatic synching with one's home computer... Apple is providing a service something like this for an annual subscription, but something from Alticor that would generously support ALL the updating/synching activities a business owner might want to do in the course of a day... including personal email, etc.

Thanks, does this mean we can substitute the "Start A Business" section online for the QBOB, as appropriate?

I don't think even the QBOB has the average income as the site describes.

.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Actually, you can just go to the printable pdf of the QBOB at Quixtar.com, too.  Both the QBOB and the opportunity section of the site stem from the same general pool of information and I originally wrote much of the content of both, although there have been tweaks to both since last fall since my involvement has been minimal.  --  RL

To answer your questions. Yes it can do all of those things. It will also let you surf the web just like you are on a PC unlike the mobile device that I use. (Motorola Q) Some sites that I try to go to on the Q have to be optimized for mobile. Quixtar being one of the sites that I don't have much luck on along with my online banking. If you have an Apple store or an AT&T store you should go in and test drive. It is pretty awesome. Only drawback (for my location) AT&T service. I live in a metro area however my day job takes me to some rural areas and the coverage for AT&T in those areas is lacking. I am excited to that Amway is looking at this seriously I believe this can bring a whole new dimension to the business.

There are many apps that we would need but the most important would be the apps that allow us to communicate with our downline and our customers.

1. Mobile - LOS / customers & IBO's

2. Mobile - PV/BV

3. Mobile - Product Info

4. Mobile - Create Customer Reciept

Keep the Blackberry user in mind.

Robin,

I was looking for a way to provide the necessary information without paper.

.

If I print it out, it not only defeats the goal, but wouldn't be very easy to put together/has difference sized paper, etc. Plus, I get the cool videos online.

.

Would this work better if I just called the rules department myself, and report the answer?

.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  If the question is, what can I show a prospect to satisfy the requirement that they see the QBOB, you can either show them an actual QBOB or bring them to the one online (with no need to print it off).  If you bring them online, you can show them other stuff, like the Opportunity Section at Quixtar.com.   --  RL

-How about a "cardfile" sales lead system with call back schedules, categories, ability to prioritize calls, notation on events/needs/contact results, network trackers(billy was referred by joe for example)

-video tools - just like the TV ads - professional presentations ad credibility to a someone you haven't known for a long time

-a networked calendar so that if I'm doing a meeting for IBOs A, B & C, it automatically pops up when where, what and invitations

I would love to come out to Ada and work on this with you guys! It's such a great idea. Can we get a deal with apple so that if we implemet this we get a discount on the phone, the plan and maybe some pv/bv if it's not too much to ask?

I am so excited about this.  As both my husband and I have smartphones.  We do travel alot and are not at home that often, so mobile applications would be awesome! If it is integrated with the iPhone so that we can pull up videos of the newest commercials and such, it will be a great tool when we are out sharing the dream or the products with people.

Will there be a simple way to register customers and ibos, followed by a simplified version of ditto delivery.  When someone is excited and I am with them, it would be much better and allow us to capture more people and volume if things can be done on the spot with out having to pull out a laptop!

Thanks for the info!

Robin, on a contact or CRM tool, it would be great if contacts could be tagged or organized by legs. So if you're helping to follow up on a downline's list, those folks could be tagged to that or under that person, at least initially. Should have multiple ways to view contacts, this would be just one of them.

Ditto Joe H

Keep in mind Windows mobile platforms, Symbian platform. In other words what every area you go in don't just be a Mac or PC guy, deliver to everyone. Yes more work but benefit is equal.

P.S.

Can I be one of the Testers. I will upgrade to an iPhone just to be a tester. I love being a beta tester.

I agree with Tex that having a streamlined, mobile marketing plan would really be an effective tool. Along with a having a place for quick access to multiple videos. Amway Watch has multiple videos play on its homepage once you hit the site. Being able to pick and choose these videos to show prospective prospects and customers would be great. Very eye-catching and cutting-edge.

I called rules and they said the "Start A Business" section can substitute for the QBOB. They are e-mailing me a confirmation of this.

.

I also recommended they put a link to the QBOB on the "Start A Business" link, rather than hand someone a link about 86 characters long, or navigate into the bowels of the Quixtar site to find the brochure, if this can even be done from the public site. They said they would forward the suggestion. I would appreciate you following up on this suggestion.

How about a receipt that lets us sell eaches? We've only been asking for a year.

how about a video index that overcomes objections for the newest IBO - "is this a pyramid?" no - watch this video... "why is loc expensive?" then show a video on concentration "why is nutrilite better?" show a video

then be able to register over the phone or complete a sale from being there

maybe a 10 minute overview of why amway is the best: the integrity of the founders - heratio alger award, un environmental peace award, uscc president terms, fair trade business, renewable farming, breakthrough science, charities, never missing a bonus etc (you and tom hall and the mac crew know what people are looking for

cool digital leave behinds that we can stick in someone's email immediately after an appointment

Robin, another way to organize contacts to support and provide back-up for the shift to more "retailing" in business building focus for more balance:

* ID/list your personal clients and prospective client list

* have options for showing a "pipeline" and a place for meeting notes, follow-up actions

* ID/list front line sponsored IBOs

* under that, be able to list IBOs by leg ("business unit")

Perhaps involve someone for feedback and input (like The Big Apple) who has a significant client base, so that whatever is developed can also scale up for people like him.

I've looked a bit at the SalesForce demo, but it's still designed to support "corporate" sales people who are directly employed. We need something that supports our direct sales, networking model, if possible.

I thought of another one. I sample and sell a lot of individual products. The more I sample the more I sell. That is if I can keep track of who I sampled and sold individual products to. It would be such a huge help if we could, on our smartphones, be able to create a customer on the fly and either record or note what we sampled or sold (eaches) to a customer. Sure I could write it down, but if we are talking about being mobile lets do it right and have a complete mobile CRM (Customer Retention Management) program. It should send thank you emails, an instant e-receipt and everything any CRM Marketing solution has today. If we are going forward with more product sales we NEED the tools to be effective in doing so.

Until now I have resisted cell phones but since I do plan to build an international business in the future it looks like I will have to look in to them. Any suggestions on what to look for?

Tex said:

Now the rules department says you cannot use the "Build A Business" section as a QBOB substitute. Which brings up the point of putting a link to the QBOB in an easier to access area. The link you provided is about 86 characters long, and I have no idea how to navigate there. I think the link could be on the front page of the web site, or at the top of the "Build A Business" section. Now that I can't use the "Build A Business" section, could you follow up on this or tell me who to contact that can? Thanks.

.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  I am forwarding this comment to internal owners of the QBOB to address.  Thanks Tex!  -- RL
